DESCRIPTION:From the “debanking” of the protesting Canadian truckers to Nig
el Farage to campaign groups like UsForThem and Free Speech Union to give
just a few examples\, financial control or exclusion for political reasons
is arguably a new frontier in the fight for freedom. \nThe Conservatives
promised but – we recently discovered – neglected to actually change the l
aw to prevent “debanking” for political reasons. In an increasingly cashle
ss society\, with the British Government pushing ahead with a Central Bank
Digital Currency that would offer the state total surveillance possibilit
ies combined with the potential for “programming” money to be used only in
certain ways\, this issue is only likely to become more urgent.\nThere ar
e many interesting questions. Is it any business of a bank what our views
are? Conversely\, if a business wishes only to support customers with cert
ain views\, should it be free to do so? Can any financial institution trul
y be said to be “private” or “independent” from the state\, given the powe
rful regulatory regimes that are part and parcel of how they operate? Some
would argue we can see ahead to our own future dystopia in the shape of C
hina’s “social credit system\,” but how much does the reality of this matc
h Western perception? Does the optimistic view of Bitcoin or cryptocurrenc
y enthusiasts who argue we can choose a future of money completely separat
ed from state\, private and censor-proof\, provide a realistic alternative
?\nTaking these often confusing and conflicting currents into account\, ho
w can we ensure our future is free from financial control? We can’t wait t
o see everyone in Leeds to discuss this vital topic\, with speaker panel a
nd audience contributions!\nWith fantastic panel speakers:\nTimandra Harkn

rable” and that his account would be closed.\nAustin Williams – director\,
